{"id":896,"date":"2009-05-22T23:15:29","date_gmt":"2009-05-23T06:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/palblog.fxpal.com\/?p=896"},"modified":"2009-05-22T23:15:29","modified_gmt":"2009-05-23T06:15:29","slug":"information-seeking-support-systems-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.fxpal.net\/?p=896","title":{"rendered":"Information Seeking Support Systems Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s my pleasure to announce that the <a title=\"ISSS Final Report\" href=\"http:\/\/ils.unc.edu\/ISSS\/ISSS_final_report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">final report<\/a> to the NSF on the <a title=\"Information Seeking Support Systems Workshop | UNC\" href=\"http:\/\/ils.unc.edu\/ISSS\/\" target=\"_blank\">workshop on Information Seeking Support Systems<\/a> (ISSS) so ably organized by Gary Marchionini and Ryen White has been published. The report covers many aspects that define this research area and distinguish it from both Information Retrieval and Human-Computer Interaction fields.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Three kinds of challenges are defined and preliminary steps toward meeting the challenges are  presented in this report: robust models of human\u2010information interaction; new tools, techniques, and  services to support the full range of information seeking activities; and techniques and methods to  evaluate information seeking across communities, platforms, sources, and time. Special attention is  given to collaborative information seeking and the need for industry\u2010academic collaboration.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was a wonderful experience to have two days of discussion of these and other topics with so many smart people, and I am happy to have contributed to the workshop organization and to the writing of the report. Finally, I am delighted that <a title=\"Communicating about Collaboration | FXPAL Blog\" href=\"http:\/\/palblog.fxpal.com\/?p=249\">collaborative information seeking<\/a> is featured as an important aspect of the field.
