The <a title=\"1st Int'l Workshop on Collaborative Information Retrieval\" href=\"http:\/\/workshops.fxpal.com\/jcdl2008\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">first workshop<\/a>, held in conjunction with JCDL 2008, focused on definitional issues, models for collaboration, and use cases. The <a title=\"2nd Int'l Workshop on Collaborative Information Retrieval\" href=\"http:\/\/workshops.fxpal.com\/cscw2010cis\/\" target=\"_blank\">second workshop<\/a>, held in\u00a0conjunction\u00a0with CSCW2010, explored communication and awareness as related to collaborative search. This third workshop will focus on system building, algorithms, and user interfaces for collaboration.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This workshop will feature a few paper presentations. a plenary poster session, and a demo session and presentations during which participants will be able to interact with collaborative search systems. And yes, there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion.<\/p>\n<p>The demo session, in particular, is intended to foster discussion and to increase our shared understanding of how to build and to use collaborative information retrieval systems. We encourage participants to build or adapt systems for this purpose, and are offering suggestions of several large-ish document collections that could serve as useful content for such systems. The workshop demo page offers a list of possible collections. Thanks to the good folks at <a title=\"CiteSeer-X\" href=\"http:\/\/citeseerx.ist.psu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">CiteSeer<\/a>, we are also making available a full-text collection of academic papers and associated metadata that can support some interesting realistic use cases for collaborative search. This dataset is available through us via FTP under the\u00a0<a title=\"CC NC SA Licence | Creative Commons\" href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-sa\/3.0\/\">CC NC SA<\/a> license. Please contact me for more details.<\/p>\n<p>We expect this workshop to be a great forum for building on our prior work and for establishing collaborative information retrieval as a dynamic new field of <a title=\"Human-Computer Information Retrieval | Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Human%E2%80%93computer_information_retrieval\" target=\"_blank\">HCIR<\/a>.
