{"id":2737,"date":"2010-01-21T07:02:07","date_gmt":"2010-01-21T15:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/palblog.fxpal.com\/?p=2737"},"modified":"2010-01-19T16:04:44","modified_gmt":"2010-01-20T00:04:44","slug":"position-papers-for-collab-info-seeking-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.fxpal.net\/?p=2737","title":{"rendered":"Position papers for Collab Info Seeking workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We had a record crop of <a title=\"Accepted Papers | CIS 2010 Workshop\" href=\"http:\/\/workshops.fxpal.com\/cscw2010cis\/AcceptedPapers.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">position papers<\/a> for the Collaborative Information Seeking (CIS) <a title=\"CIS 2010 Workshop\" href=\"http:\/\/workshops.fxpal.com\/cscw2010cis\/\">workshop<\/a> we&#8217;re organizing at <a title=\"CSCW 2010 Conference\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cscw2010.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">CSCW 2010<\/a>. Underscoring the ubiquity of collaboration in information seeking, the position papers address everything from health care to emergency response to SecondLife to the information seeking ecology within the enterprise. The papers clustered out into several broad categories, although some papers could have been easily classified in more than one way.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->We performed a quick triage of the papers to identify main themes, as shown below, but more insights are sure to emerge during the workshop.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Transitions to collaboration\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Kiciman, E. (2010)  Towards  a  Model of Collaborative Information Behavior. In Proc. CIS2010 Workshop.\" href=\"http:\/\/workshops.fxpal.com\/cscw2010cis\/submissions\/tmp10.pdf\">Karunakaran <em>et al<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em> point out), into more detailed descriptions of collaboration. We then generalize from description to create models, which in turn might inform the design of interfaces and systems. This seems like a balanced set of contributions in this relatively young area, and will surely stimulate\u00a0 discussion at the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>What seems to be missing at the moment is work that closes the loop and evaluates the use of collaborative search tools in support of real work.
